Kayak Trailer Building Project

01/13/01 - 03/25/01
PHASE 1 - January 13, 2001 - The first phase of this project was to purchase a trailer that could be modified to carry kayaks. I finally found one at the local Home Depot.

Phase 2 - February 10, 2001 - The second phase was to add wooden side rails. This will allow me to carry camping supplies and also use the trailer for other hauling tasks. My friend Leo assisted with this phase and the final inspection was completed by his son Benjamin.
Phase 3 - March 18, 2001 - The third phase of this project was to add the kayak rack. We started out with a plan that ended up much too complicated and structurally had a very weak point. We ended up with a much simpler design based on the "strength of a triangle" which Leo credits to Grandpa Alvarez's teachings. We ran out of time and there is still more work to be completed, so we're adding Phase 4.
Phase 4 - March 25, 2001 - The fourth and final phase included adding stabilizing straps and kayak tie-downs. Of course, this phase also included the maiden voyage. Everything worked like a charm and we're ready to hit the road and hit the water!
